From expertise to success

Information and data are important success factors in our connected world. ECE maintains a wealth of information, for example the footfall at shopping centers, the turnover generated by tenants or experience from global operations of the past 50 years. ECE shares this enormous market and industry expertise with its business partners to successfully create synergies.

In-house Department of Research

ECE has an in-house Market Research team that comprehensively deals with market research and geo research issues. These experts conduct surveys, customer analyses, location and catchment area analyses as well as analyses of internal and external data. The team uses this wealth of data to draw sound conclusions and supports, among others, the planning, positioning and the further development of shopping centers.

Studies & Publications

Since 2015, ECE has been publishing studies about various aspects of the shopping center business. Thus, the company can provide a wealth of information that is based on various surveys, data and analyses that is unique in the European retail industry. This includes customer behavior, a study on food and beverage options or publications on the services provided in shopping centers. ECE shares a lot of information with the retail industry.

ECE Retailers

ECE uses more and more digital solutions to communicate with tenants: Since 2016 they can use the customer portal “ECE Retailers” to record their turnovers and submit them automatically to ECE's systems. In return they receive industry benchmarks on their shops in the various ECE centers. In the long run, ECE plans to extend this feature to create a comprehensive information platform that will contain numerous analyses and documents.

Marketing and Innovation Committee

ECE's Marketing and Innovation Committee (MIC) consists of the seven executives from various divisions. The team supports the interdepartmental collaboration in the company and an ongoing innovation process by providing impetus – for example by establishing “Ideas to Innovation”.

Stakeholder Surveys

ECE surveys 345,000 customers every year. In addition, there are also investor, tenant and employee surveys. For this purpose, the company works with the latest market research methods and solutions as well as with renowned institutions like GfK, TNS or Forsa to make communication with stakeholders as efficient as possible.

Portfolio Analysis

As a special service, ECE's Key Account Management provides a unique portfolio analysis for center tenants. This analysis looks at the development of all shop locations of the tenants in general compared to figures of the relevant industry and enables a benchmarking of all ECE locations. Thus, additional potential and cooperations can be discussed based on the gathered information.

Industry networks

As a member of numerous associations and organizations, ECE is committed to sustainability, urban development, and the retail business, and promotes the interests of the industry. The company is a member of all major associations and organizations: International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), German Council of Shopping Centers (GCSC), Urban Land Institute (ULI), German Property Federation (ZIA – Zentraler Immobilien Ausschuss), German Retail Association (HDE - Handelsverband Deutschland), German Facility Management Association (GEFMA), EHI Retail Institute (EHI), Institute for Corporate Governance in the German Real Estate Industry (ICG) of the German Real Estate Industry, and German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen).

Retail Meeting, Investors Day, or Legal Summit: ECE organizes regular events for its partners and customers. The aim of these events, which welcome up to 600 guests, is the continuous sharing and mutual collaborative work in future projects. Of course, ECE is also represented at all important trade shows of the industry.

Innovation Forum

As part of Retail Meeting 2016, ECE held its first Innovation Forum. Interested retail partners discussed the topics innovation and digitalization and focused on the shopping center of the future in workshops and speeches delivered by Google and Locafox.
