Chief Executive Officer

Alexander Otto has been Chief Executive Officer of ECE, a company owned by the Otto family, since 2000. During his leadership, ECE became European market leader in the field of inner-city shopping centers.

By now, the company has 3,600 employees and operates in 12 countries with assets under management totaling approximately 33.4 billion euros. Moreover, ECE is one of the leading developers of major real estate properties in Europe, focusing on office properties, hotels, logistics centers, and retail properties.

Alexander Otto is member of the Supervisory Boards of Otto Group, DES Deutsche EuroShop AG, Sonae Sierra Brasil SA in São Paulo/Brazil, and DDR Corp. in Cleveland/USA. He also sits on the Advisory Board of Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf and is board member of the Harvard Business School Foundation of Germany.

Mr. Otto is initiator and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of “Lebendige Stadt Foundation”, which promotes the revitalization of European inner cities. Furthermore, he supports Youth and Disabled sports in Hamburg through his “Alexander Otto Sports Foundation”. He also initiated and funded the construction of an ice and ball sports arena as well as the HSV Soccer Academy in Hamburg. In addition, he supports healthcare and cultural projects, among others the extensive refurbishment of Hamburg Art Museum, through “Dorit und Alexander Otto Foundation”.

Alexander Otto was born in Hamburg in July 1967. After completing his International Baccalaureate in Oxford, he studied at Harvard University (BA 1990) and Harvard Business School (MBA 1994). He joined ECE in 1994.

Managing Director Center Management – Joanna Fisher

Joanna Fisher has been Managing Director Center Management since 2014 and, in this role, heads the Portfolio Business of ECE. She started her career at ECE in 1998 as a Center Manager at various locations in Germany and abroad, mainly in Eastern Europe.

Besides managing and restructuring numerous portfolio properties, she was also responsible for the opening and the market entry of shopping centers. From 2011 to 2013, she held the position of Regional Director Center Management for the regions East, later for the region Southwest including Switzerland. She then took over the responsibility for the New Markets as Senior Director and managed the ECE developments in Italy, Denmark, Turkey and Qatar.

Joanna Fisher was born in Szczecin in 1973. She studied Business Administration at European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) specializing in Marketing and Controlling.

Managing Director HR & Corporate Services – Robert Heinemann

Managing Director HR & Corporate Services

Robert Heinemann has been Managing Director of the division HR & Corporate Services (Compliance & Data Protection, Corporate Communications, Corporate Insurance Management, Information Technology, Legal, Organizational Development, Sustainability & Internal Services) since 2017.

His career at ECE started in the Corporate Communications section in 1999 where he held several positions including Head of Department and Spokesman. He was appointed Director of the section in 2006. He transferred to the Center Management division as Senior Director in 2013 where he was responsible for the operations of approximately 120 shopping centers in six countries. He also held several managerial positions at other subsidiaries.

In addition, Robert Heinemann was member of Hamburg Parliament for eleven years and takes an active role, among others, in the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, HDE, in the German Council of Shopping Centers and the International Council of Shopping Centers, and in the German Economic Council. He is also member of the Executive Committee of “Lebendige Stadt” Foundation.

Robert Heinemann was born in Hamburg in July 1974. He completed a vocational training as a bank clerk, earned a degree in Business Administration from FernUniversität Hagen while working full time, and completed the Advanced Management Program of Harvard Business School.

CIO – Henry W. Kötter

Chief Investment Officer (CIO)

Henrie W. Kötter has been Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of the Development division since 2014. In this function, he is responsible for ECE’s global investment activities and the development business. In addition to the acquisition of shopping centers, his field of activity comprises the development and realization of centers as well as large-scale refurbishment projects. Furthermore, he is responsible for the entire placement processes of ECE (disposal of assets within the retail sector as well as the hotel and office segments).

During his +10-year career at ECE, Henrie Kötter has headed several positions both nationally and internationally, including a 4-year appointment as Managing Director of the Center Management division overseeing the operations of all ECE centers. In 2008 he received the Young Leader Award from ULI Germany.

Henrie W. Kötter was born in Bünde in 1974. He is a graduate of the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel (Germany) with semesters at the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and the Richard Ivey School of Business in London/Ontario (Canada).

Managing Director Architecture & Construction – Markus Lentzler

Since 2014, Markus Lentzler has been heading the division Architecture and Construction at ECE as Managing Director. He joined ECE as Project Leader in 1992.

After several executive functions in Germany he became Deputy Managing Director Construction International in 2006. In 2009 he assumed responsibility for the Architecture division as Managing Director.

Markus Lentzler was born in Pinneberg in 1960. He studied architecture at the Hannover University. After the completion of his studies he was working as Architect in the offices Schweger and Partner, as well as Schramm, von Bassewitz, Hupertz and Partner in Hamburg.

Managing Director Office, Traffic, Industries & Corporate Communications - Dr. Andreas Mattner

Dr. Andreas Mattner is Managing Director of ECE's Office, Traffic, Industries division. He joined ECE in 1993, serving first as Director PR and Acquisition and subsequently as Managing Director of several subsidiaries.

Apart from his professional work, Dr. Andreas Mattner has worked in the Hamburg regional parliament for many years, he held several executive positions in the German Economic Council, and was President of Hamburg Freezers ICE Hockey Club. He also sat on the Advisory Boards of DSK, Wiesbaden; BIG, Kronshagen; Hamburger Hochbahn; Bilfinger Hochbau, Frankfurt.

Today, he is President of Zentraler Immobilien Ausschuss (German Property Foundation, ZIA), the leading association of the real estate industry, he is member of the Presidential Board of Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Immobilienwirtschaft Deutschland (Federal Association of the German Real Estate Industry), Berlin, he is Chairman of the Executive Commitee of “Lebendige Stadt” Foundation, Curator of "Alexander Otto Sports Foundation", and member of the presidential board of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (Federation of German Industries, BDI). He sits on the Advisory Board of EUREF AG, Berlin and of the listed company Hamborner Reit, Duisburg. Since 2016, Mattner has been “Representative for Germany” for the non-profit organization R20 Regions of Climate Action, which was founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010. In addition, Dr. Mattner was appointed as one of six Board Directors of R20 Foundation in June 2017. The foundation supports investments in green and infrastructure projects. In cooperation with Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, 100 projects will be initiated across the world in the areas of waste management, renewable energy, and energy efficiency totaling 2.5 billion US dollars. A large number of such projects has already been completed by R20.

Dr. Andreas Mattner was born in Gelsenkirchen in 1960. He studied law and politics at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and worked as Research Assistant and Managing Director at the university's Institute for Economic Administrative Law. After completing two state examinations and his doctorate, he became Research Assistant of the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.

CFO – Claudia Plath

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Since 2013, Plath has been Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of ECE and heads the sections Asset Management, Corporate Finance, Accounting & Controlling as well as ECE’s risk management.

1996 she joined ECE as Controller. After three years in a team leader position she was responsible as Director for the controlling of the property companies and ECE as of 2004. Afterwards she was responsible as Senior Director Asset Management for the commercial control and support of all national and international shopping centers.

Claudia Plath was born in 1971 in Freital near Dresden. She studied business administration at Technical University Berlin and worked at the same time at Bayerische Immobilienverwaltung in Berlin.

Managing Director Leasing – Klaus Striebich

Since 2003, Klaus Striebich has been assuming overall responsibility for the Leasing division. He joined ECE as Leasing Manager in 1992. In 1998 he became the youngest Director and in 2001 Deputy Managing Director.

As chairman of the board of the German Council of Shopping Centers and author of numerous articles he argues for the further development of his industry and claims to never lose sight of the customer.

Klaus Striebich was born in Adelsheim in 1967. After he completed his business economics studies with focus on trade at the University of Cooperative Education in Mosbach, he started his career as Assistant of the Management Board at the Kriegbaum Group Böblingen.
