Sustainability is consistently implemented in all business areas of ECE and developed further. This is ensured by specifically created organizational structures which set the responsibilities for sustainability within the company and which are firmly rooted within the company.
You can advance further only if you allow stimuli from outside. As the European market leader in the shopping center industry, we deliberately chose to establish an external Sustainability Advisory Board and pioneered in implementing an important principle of the ZIA sustainability code for the property sector.
New projects are presented on the Board and critically reviewed with regard to sustainability and their impact on the environment. The findings and proposals emerging from the lively discussion of the Advisory Board members and the experts from the divisions will then be included in the decision-making process.
With this high-profile panel consisting of Andreas Wente (former CEO of Philips Deutschland GmbH), Ole von Beust (former First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg), Arved Fuchs (polar researcher), Prof. Dr. Kunibert Lennerts (Institute of Technology Karlsruhe), and Bärbel Schomberg (real estate expert), ECE has already initiated a number of sustainability measures.
Already in 2007, a cross-divisional Sustainability Team was set up at ECE. The team consists of at least one coordinator from each division, so that all divisions make a contribution to ECE’s sustainable development. The Team is headed by the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO). She is responsible for the strategic control of all sustainability measures of ECE: the observation of the social, economic, and political environment, the preparation and communication of the findings as well as the systematic exchange of know-how.
