2013 – to date

Well positioned into the future

As European market leader for downtown shopping centers and long-term planning real estate specialist, ECE have their sights firmly set on the future development of the industry. For a number of years now, shopping galleries have increasingly developed to places that offer more than pure shopping. They are places you can experience, to see and be seen, to meet others, for leisure time and – of course – for shopping. This trend will continue.

The consequences of the progressively increasing e-commerce are evident everywhere in the commercial landscape. However, at ECE we firmly believe that the bricks-and-mortar trade will also play an important role in the future. This conclusion was also reached by the customer survey carried out by Roland Berger Strategy in 2013. Despite the strong online competition, the bricks-and-mortar trade remains a popular shopping opportunity. In order to remain successful next to the online trade, ECE continuously works to make their shopping centers more attractive and this also for their online-savvy customers.

The shopping centers Alstertal-Einkaufszentrum in Hamburg, Limbecker-Platz in Essen and Marmara Park in Istanbul were made to so-called Future Labs. Here, new digital and interactive shopping experiences and services are tested. The services, which were very popular among the customers and thus have been spread to other centers, include the "love to shop" app, interactive playgrounds, 3D guiding systems, electronic info terminals, free Wi-Fi and the so-called "click & collect" service: you can buy online via the app and collect the goods later in the center.

The Future Labs will continue their tests in order to find trend-setting services. They already offer the customers today the exceptional shopping experience of tomorrow – in line with the motto “Ideas to Innovations”. In this concept, ECE brings together its various innovations and trend-setting solutions that will shape the properties of tomorrow. Therefore, after 50 years of company history, the company can still be optimistic about the future.
