06/27/2008: New Thier-Areal Dortmund
Kaspar Kraemer Architekten BDA, Cologne, Win Facade Competition /
Opening of Shopping Center Planned for Autumn 2011
Another important milestone in the realization of the Neues Thier-Areal in the inner city of Dortmund has been reached: The Cologne-based architect’s office Kaspar Kraemer Architekten BDA emerges as the winner of the facade competition for the planned shop-ping center. After intensive examination and discussion, the top-class jury has come to this decision during a full-day session, which took place on Thursday (6/26/2008) in Dortmund. In their statement, the jury (chaired by the Freiburg architect and urban planner Prof. Klaus Humpert) praised the successful integration of the facade into the existing city structure. Kasper Kraemer’s high-grade concept convinced the jury not least because it also externally reflects the high quality of the products that are to be offered inside the center. Furthermore, it has succeeded in providing a conclusive connection of the two existing buildings which will be integrated in the concept. The winner received 11.500 Euro in prize money. The second place, which was remunerated with 8.500 Euro, went to the architect’s office ASP Schweger Assoziierte with offices in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich. Third placed (6.000 Euro) was Büro Architekten Schomers.Schürmann of Bremen. Fourth place (4.000 Euro) was awarded to Petzinka Pink Architekten, Düsseldorf.
