Revitalization during ongoing operation until 2010 / Conversion into one of Europe's longest shopping malls
Hamburg, July 1, 2008 Today marks the beginning of the reconstruction work on the shopping center Hamburger Straße in Hamburg-Barmbek. The well-established shopping center, that was opened in 1970, is to be modernized and completely remodeled with an investment volume of approximately 200 million Euro. The reconstruction process will be carried out during ongoing operation. The project is to be completed in fall 2010. The owner of the shopping mall and investor for the revitalization measures is a joint venture of the Hermann Friedrich Bruhn company group and ECE. General planning and building management for the modernization is carried out by ECE, general contractor is Ed. Züblin AG. ECE is also in charge of leasing and center management.
Restructuring and modernization include the readjustment of the product range, a fundamental renewal of the exterior facade as well as the redevelopment of the mall that will extend along the entire length of the building complex. With a length of approximately 600 meters, it is going to be one of the longest malls in Europe. Energy use in the shopping center will be optimized by means of a new illumination and energy concept comprising a dynamic light regulation, also taking into account the respective time of day.
