10/14/2008: Ernst-August-Galerie opens in Hanover on Wednesday
Example for sustainable climate protection – LEED certification planned for the first time +++ 1,000 jobs +++ investment of 230 million € +++
After a construction period of approximately 22 months, Ernst-August-Galerie will be opening on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in Hanover. It was realized by the project partners ECE and HGA Kapital Grundbesitz und Anlage GmbH for approximately 230 million Euro. “Ernst-August-Galerie is a future-oriented project that shows how sustainable shopping centers can be developed and realized today“, says head of ECE Alexander Otto.
As the first German shopping center, Ernst-August-Galerie is expected to receive a LEED certificate – the internationally accepted standard for sustainable buildings. LEED is short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Thus, Ernst-August-Galerie is the first shopping center, in which electrical mall cooling can be completely dispensed with due to natural ventilation. This saves 35 tons of CO2. Moreover, a 250 kilowatt photovoltaic system for power generation mounted on the center’s roof will be taken into operation next spring. The power output generated by this system equals the annual consumption of approximately 65 single-family homes and will be saving about 50 tons of CO2 per year. Further climate protection measures include energy efficient illuminants of the cutting edge generation as well as the use of certified green power, among other things.
