ECE realizes Hamburg’s first congress hotel at HafenCity

ECE will realize a large international congress hotel in the Elbbrücken district of HafenCity. It will be situated on construction plot 119 in the immediate vicinity of the Elbbrücken stops for the U4 subway line and suburban train lines S3 and S31. The project, which Hamburg has long promoted, represents an important addition to the congress and hotel market as the city looks to sharpen its profile for medium-sized congresses.

The congress hotel is also important for strengthening the corporate landscape. Despite the modernization of the congress center, the hotel supply plan for Hamburg also noted the existing supply gap. ECE is the designated owner and developer of the hotel. The company will implement the project together with its project partner HSP Hamburg Invest GmbH. Serious talks with international hotel operators are already in progress. Once the contract is concluded, the architectural competition will start in early 2018. Completion is slated for the spring of 2021.

Florian Sauer, Managing Director OTI Development & Leasing, ECE: “We are very pleased that we are now able to further solidify the planning for our congress hotel in such a prominent and well-connected location. In the early planning phase, we coordinated the requirements regarding the size and features of the congress hotel with the Hamburg Economic Development Agency and Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH so that the project will be a sensible and beneficial addition to the already existing venues and strengthen Hamburg's overall reputation as a congress location.”

The new congress hotel with at least 500 rooms will be located in the upscale international 4-5 star segment and offer a large ballroom (conference hall) for up to 1,300 guests. In addition to hotel and congress use, office space can also be integrated. The location in the Elbbrücken district will be ideal for hotel and congress guests as it will be connected to the future Elbbrücken subway and suburban train stations – just two stops away from Hamburg central station. The property is superbly positioned with high visibility between the subway station and Baakenwerder Strasse / Versmannstrasse – the future eastern entrance to the center of Hamburg via HafenCity.
