ECE Retail Meeting 2018: Levi's® receives "Retailer Award 2018"

600 attendees at Europe's largest retail industry event, focusing on service, digitalization, and food

Today, the retailer of the year was presented with the “Retailer Award 2018” during ECE's Retail Meeting at Fischauktionshalle Hamburg. The award was presented for the twelfth time and this year went to Levi’s®. The textile retailer and jeans world market leader has been successfully selling its products for more than 140 years. It operates in 110 countries and currently runs 30 stores at ECE shopping centers.

Steffen Friedlein, ECE Managing Director Leasing and member of the Retail Award Jury said: “Levi's® is a great example for a brand with a long tradition that still offers attractive and sought-after products today. The company smartly connects its brick-and-mortar assortment with its e-commerce activities, operates well-designed, modern shops, and constantly aligns its products with the customer demand and thus caters for almost every age group. Levi’s® is still expanding strongly and realizes growth rates of more than 20%. It shows that brick-and-mortar retail can be strong and successful with the right concepts.”

„We are very happy to receive this award from ECE“, said Heiko Gentner, Partner Retail & Expansion Director at Levi Strauss Germany GmbH. „The prize recognizes our constant growth in the past years in Europe and Germany in particular. Our stores, first and foremost, are places where customers not only find their favorite products but where they also can experience a lot. ECE is a strong and important partner for our expansion strategy at Levi’s®“.

The ECE Retailer Award distinguishes the most innovative concepts and outstanding achievements in the retail industry and is presented at ECE's Retail Meeting every year. The Retailer Award jury consists of renowned experts from research, science, and the retail industry as well as last year's awardees.

Focusing on services, food offerings, and digitalization

Approximately 600 renowned decision-makers from national and international retailers discussed opportunities and trends in the retail business at Europe's largest meeting of the retail industry. Discussions focused mainly on services, the food offerings at shopping centers, and digitalization. Alexander Otto (CEO), Joanna Fisher (Managing Director Center Management) and Steffen Friedlein (Managing Director Leasing) presented the progress of the “At your Service” campaign, which was launched by ECE in 2017. By pursuing this holistic approach, ECE aims to take its services at its centers to the next level. During the first phase of the campaign, the company will invest 190 million euros at up to 60 locations until 2020. Addressing the increasing importance of food service at shopping centers, ECE presented current projects such as FoodSky at Europa Passage Hamburg or Foodtopia at MyZeil Frankfurt and the “We Love Food” campaign. Once again, digitalization in the retail business and the “Digital Mall” were an integral part of the discussions: At present, the pilot project enables Alstertal-Einkaufszentrum to show the availability of 200,000 products on its website. Based on the positive results of the pilot phase, the online product search will be rolled out at five more centers before the end of this year.
