Sustainability under scrutiny

Being an internationally operating company, ECE supports all renowned certification systems. ECE projects are mainly certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) which bases their assessment on a holistic approach. This perception corresponds with the principles of the sustainability of ECE who also pursues holistic objectives when implementing sustainable measures. Some shopping centers were also certified with the world's foremost assessment method BREEAM.

In Germany, ECE is leading with regard to the sustainability certification of shopping centers with numerous DGNB-certified and BREEAM-certified projects. Thus, the company proves its expertise in the field of sustainable building. 

A German quality seal for Sustainable Building (DGNB)

The German quality seal for Sustainable Building was initiated by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building, and Urban Development and the German Sustainable Building Council. It has been possible to evaluate and certify office, administrative, and also commercial properties since 2009.


BREEAM is an internationally recognized assessment method for building. The "Environmental Assessment Method (EAM)" for buildings was originally developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), a British research institute, under the name BREEAM.
