Hermes logistics center No 6 goes into operation in the Halle/Leipzig Region

After opening its Hamburg logistics center in late February, Hermes’ next ultra-modern distribution center has now been opened in Kabelsketal – superbly located between the booming cities of Halle and Leipzig – at a gala event involving more than 100 guests. The new-build project, which was developed, planned, and constructed by ECE, will be able to handle more than 200,000 shipments a day once it comes into operation in May 2019. In total, approximately 200 people will be employed at this location. The logistics center has benefited from an investment of 38 million euros. Situated in an ideal location for access to the A9 and A14 freeways and other major roads, the distribution center is also very close to Leipzig-Halle Airport.

Like all of Hermes’ new logistics centers, the Kabelsketal site has been awarded a “Gold”-standard sustainability certification by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The certificate pays testimony to the company’s exemplary approach to resources and the environment. As well as offering ergonomic and barrier-free workstations, some of which include height-adjustable tables, the new logistics center is therefore also surrounded by extensive green spaces, created in cooperation with the German “Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union” (NABU).

“Thanks to our very positive cooperation with Hermes and all those involved in the project, we have successfully completed a logistics center within a short build period of about eleven months,” explains Florian Sauer, Managing Director of Development & Leasing for ECE’s Office, Traffic, Industries division.
