Since its founding by mail-order pioneer Werner Otto in 1965, ECE has remained fully owned by the Otto family to this day. As an owner-operated family company, we are able to conduct the business independently, autonomously, and with a long-term approach – a key element of our continued business success and long-term customer relationships.
Our CEO Alexander Otto
The company has been managed by Alexander Otto, the son of the founder, since the year 2000. As co-owner and head of the company, he brings his personal perspective as a long-term investor and customer-driven service provider to the company, day in and day out – and does so in an authentic and accessible way, directly interacting with partners, retailers, investors, and employees at ECE headquarters in northern Hamburg.

Perks and company activities
We offer our employees attractive perks and numerous benefits. But in addition to their work, we also want our employees to relax and enjoy themselves, too. Whether at a summer festival, a Christmas party, or a live open-air screening of a major sporting event with the team and their whole family, there are plenty of opportunities for coworkers to get together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Things can get a little louder on ECE’s campus during summer break, when some of our conference rooms are transformed into oases for the children of ECE employees. Here, children ages 6 to 12 can enjoy a wide variety of activities throughout the day while under full supervision. The program is organized within the scope of our “Career and Family” project in cooperation with our partner pme Familienservice. It’s the perfect cure for summer boredom.
Around 1,000 ECE employees celebrate our traditional ECE summer festival every year on the company’s campus in Hamburg. After welcoming remarks by our CEO Alexander Otto, a different surprise awaits the participants at each summer festival – sometimes a surprise visit by the soccer stars from the Hamburg soccer club HSV and sometimes a performance by the ECE choir kicks off the more informal part of the evening, which usually does not end until the early morning hours.
Girls’ and Boys’ Day
Every year on the nationwide Future Day for Girls and Boys, we also open our doors to the next generation. Numerous young people – all of whom can look forward to an exciting range of activities – then stream onto our campus to explore the various areas and departments.
Open-air screening of soccer matches with the family
The ECE team has a long tradition of rooting for Germany’s national soccer team during World Cup and UEFA Championship games. And to make sure that no one has to shed tears of joy or sadness alone with their coworkers, employees’ entire families are of course invited to cheer along as well.
Jobrad bike program
Healthy employees and a healthy environment are extremely important to us – that’s why, in cooperation with Jobrad, we offer employees company bicycles and electric bikes. In this program, ECE leases Jobrad bikes for its employees and lets them use them whenever they want – to commute to work, during their time off, while on vacation, or to exercise. The payments are automatically deducted from their salary in the form of monthly installments and, thanks to a tax benefit, result in savings of up to 40% compared to purchasing the bike on their own.
